UNRISD Research Coordinator, Katja Hujo, will give a presentation on Global Lessons in Social Policy Planning and Implementation at the Arab Forum on Social Policy 28-29 October 2009 in Beirut, Lebanon.
Hujo’s presentation will focus on social protection through social insurance and assistance with examples from Costa Rica, Brazil and selected countries from the Middle East and North Africa.
The Forum is organized by the Social Development Division (SDD) of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in partnership with the Government of Dubai’s Community Development Authority (CDA). It was mandated 11 May 2006 by member countries in ESCWA Resolution 277 on Social Development Policies. The overall aim of the Forum is “to enhance national capacity to integrate social priorities and perspectives in public policies,” while engaging its participants in learning and knowledge sharing through interactive and dynamic activities.
